SDN Children’s Service’s CEO, Ginie Udy, presented the eighth Hilda Antill Leadership Scholarship at an awards ceremony at Macquarie University on Thursday 14th April. This prestigious award went to Leyla Eide, a fourth year student studying for a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education.

Leyla feels “incredibly honoured to have been chosen as the 2011 Hilda Antill Leadership Scholarship recipient. This scholarship is extremely important because it comes from such a highly reputable organisation within the field of early childhood education. It sends out a clear message to early childhood students that their talents and hard work are truly valued by one of the largest organisations within the field. Thank you SDN, for reminding us that what we do, and doing it well, matters. I am proud to be associated with an organisation that matches my own philosophy and beliefs so precisely.”

Worth $3000, the Hilda Antill Leadership Scholarship has been around since 2004 and is awarded to a student with academic merit, experience taking leadership roles and demonstrated commitment to social justice, social change and an interest in family contexts and the impact of the social environment on children’s learning and development.

The scholarship is awarded in honour of Hilda Antill, who worked at SDN for 34 years from 1949 to 1983. Hilda worked in several leadership positions, including on the Executive Committee, as a member of the Nursery School Teachers’ College Council and as President and Vice President of the Woolloomooloo Branch Committee.
