The SDN Brighter Futures Southern Sydney team recently celebrated Harmony Day. The staff and families of the Brighter Futures program represent the diversity that exists in Australia. This diversity challenges and motivates the team to extend their learning and understanding of their colleagues and clients.
This year for Harmony Day, instead of looking outside of their office, the team decided to celebrate their own cultures. They each researched a country they were interested in, then brought in food from that region.
Around an overladen kitchen table they sang songs from Italy, heard about the heritage of Jacinta Ang, who is from a small island off Sicily, ate lasagne and sang Perry Como songs. They ate and learnt their way through China, UK, Mexico, Thailand and Indonesia, finishing up in Morocco.
