To celebrate NAIDOC week, SDN Woolloomooloo Children’s Education and Care Centre held a cultural celebration at the centre for the local community.  Special guests included local Aboriginal elders, the Kings Cross Police Superintendent, Sue Waites, the Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Marcelle Hoff, the Darlinghurst Fire Department, as well as community members and families.

Everyone participated in a range of activities throughout the morning, including children’s face painting, Aboriginal storytelling, making bracelet in the colours of the Aboriginal flag, mural painting with hand prints and a delicious BBQ lunch.

Centre Director, Denise Alley said that the day was a great success and a lot of fun for everyone. ‘At SDN Woolloomooloo we feel that it is important to celebrate NAIDOC week to provide children with a cultural education from a young age so they can learn about the significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It also provides an opportunity for families and community members to come together in recognition of the day,’ she said.
