SDN's achievements

  • SDN’s services help more than 7600 children, including 550 Aboriginal children and 200 children with disabilities each year. SDN also helps 800 families and 1311 other children’s services providers each year.
  • In 2012 SDN Children’s Services was formally recognised as an employer of choice for women by the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA). SDN was also recognised as an employer of choice for women in 2011.
  • The SDN 2011 Annual Report was short listed with 9 other finalists in the $5m – $30m revenue group of the Price Waterhouse Coopers Transparency Awards. These awards recognise quality, transparent Annual and Financial Reports in the not-for-profit sector.
  • In 2008 SDN won an Australian Government Equal Opportunity for Women in Workplace Agency (EOWA) award for Outstanding EEO Practice for the Advancement of Indigenous Women for an innovative education and employment program.
  • In 2003 SDN won a National Child Protection Award from the Australian Council for Children and Parenting in recognition of their outstanding and significant contribution to child protection in Australia for a parenting resource program SDN ran in Waterloo.
  • SDN Children’s Services has a long-standing reputation for advocating in the best interests of children and families, with a proud history supporting marginalised children. It is the only organisation in the children’s services sector that has a dedicated Aboriginal Unit dedicated to support Aboriginal children and families.
  • This status and standing was reflected in 2008 when the then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd selected SDN to make a major policy announcement in relation to high-quality, inclusive children’s services.
  • Since that visit, SDN has hosted more than eight federal and state ministers and been selected by government to host a range of nationally significant policy announcements. During a recent visit to SDN Marrickville, the Federal Minister for Employment Participation and Child Care, Kate Ellis remarked: ‘his is an example of what we want to see right around the nation to give all Australian children the very best start in these critical, early years.’
