We are seeking an Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer to work with SDN Beranga staff and partners (satellite centres) to ensure services offered by SDN Beranga are founded on community engagement practice, and designed to build capacity of Aboriginal children and families. SDN Beranga is a project developed by SDN Child & Family Services and Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) and funded by NSW Government. SDN Beranga will be a demonstration centre for the most effective and exemplary practice in the field of early childhood education for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The service will integrate both early childhood intervention and mainstream early childhood education. This is a maternity leave position until 21 December 2012.
You will have:
- University qualifications in early childhood education, community welfare, social science or a related discipline.
- Knowledge and understanding of early childhood issues and family and community based programs and interventions which enhance the health, education and well-being of children and their families
- Experience working with Aboriginal children with a wide range of abilities.
- Proven ability to negotiate and mediate with Aboriginal communities, government agencies and other organisations.
- Demonstrated experience in project promotion and community engagement.
- Demonstrated experience in working with young Aboriginal children and families.
- Experience leading supervising staff/team, acting as a coach or mentor.
