Recruitment and selection

SDN Children’s Services is committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity. All our policies and work practices reflect this commitment.

The SDN recruitment and selection process is as follows.

1. Applications are received

Applicants should submit the following two documents when applying for a job:
  • Cover letter outlining the position being applied for, qualifications, skills and experience in relation to each of the essential selection criteria found in the position description.
  • Current resume which should include a brief summary of your work history, contact details, academic training and education and contact details of two professional referees.

2. Applicants to be offered an interview are short-listed

After applications close for a position, a selection committee is formed. This committee meets to short-list applications based on the essential selection criteria.

3. Interviews

Short-listed applicants are interviewed. The interview panel consists of two or more members of staff, and is chaired by the manager responsible for the position.

4. Reference checks

At the time of interview applicants must provide the names and contact details of two professional referees who have previously supervised and worked directly with them.

5. Working with children check

For preferred candidates applying for child related employment, we will need consent to conduct a Working with Children background check. 

6. Offer of employment

The successful applicant will be notified verbally prior to a formal written offer of employment being sent.

7.  Unsuccessful Applications

All candidates will be notified by either email or telephone on the outcome of their application.

Privacy of applicants

SDN Children’s Services is committed to protecting the privacy of individuals throughout the selection and recruitment process. As an organisation we are bound by the National Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1998 (Commonwealth). All personal information collected from unsuccessful applicants during the recruitment process will be treated as confidential and securely destroyed when appropriate.
