SDN Acacia

About the centre

SDN Acacia was established in 2009 for the Attorney-General’s Department. As we are providing a service for the Attorney Generals Office we give preference to staff at the Attorney Generals Office and its Portfolio Agencies, as well as staff from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. However other families can be considered pending availability. The child care centre is housed in a purpose-designed building with a large natural outdoor space where children explore and learn.

Our staff

SDN Acacia has highly trained and professional staff, including two qualified Early Childhood Teachers and four diploma qualified Assistants. All our educators are committed to early childhood education and aim to create an inviting, stimulating and respectful environment for children and families.

Location

Our child care centre is in a unique location in the heart of Canberra.

Our care and education programs

The resources in the community allow the curriculum to be developed and displayed to the children through walks to national landmarks such as the National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House, Questacon, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy and foreign embassies.

Our commitment to the early childhood industry has been showcased in the media. SDN Acacia’s grand opening in June 2010 was officially opened by Australian Attorney-General Robert McClelland, and we have been visited by several state and federal Ministers.

Testimonials from families

‘We have been thrilled with our son’s development at Acacia and with the amazing level of care and support he receives. Charlie has developed great social and learning skills and has thrived in the learning environment provided by the staff. Charlie loves “kindy” (as he calls it) and skips off every day excited about the day to come. As parents we feel secure that our son’s emotional and intellectual needs are not only being met, but well and truly exceeded.’
Trevor and Claudia.

My children transferred to Acacia on its very first day of operation and they have never looked back. They are happy and content to be there, and always come home full of new experiences to share and excited about what the next day will bring. I have found the staff helpful and caring. Both my children have developed good relationships with several of the staff members. As a parent I feel at ease leaving my children there, knowing that they will be well cared for while I am at work.’ Sam.

‘We’ve found SDN Acacia an excellent child care centre for our daughter. The staff are professional and caring and the centre environment is excellent. It is important to us that SDN is a good organisation, looking after its people and the standards of child care in Australia. The result is a happy and healthy experience for children.’ Alastair and Karen.
