The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is the new national early education framework for children aged from birth to five years. The aim of the framework is to ensure that all children receive quality education programs.
All of SDN’s centres have incorporated the framework principles into our education and care programs along with our own curriculum. We are engaging with the framework on a daily basis to ensure that our play-based learning programs are of the highest quality and focused on children’s individual interests.
The five learning outcomes of the EYLF are:
- Children have a strong sense of identity.
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world.
- Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.
- Children are confident and involved learners.
- Children are effective communicators.
The Early Years Learning Framework describes childhood as a time of belonging, being and becoming.
- Belonging is the basis for living a fulfilling life. Children feel they belong because of the relationships they have with their family, community, culture and place.
- Being is about living here and now. Childhood is a special time in life and children need time to just ‘be’ – time to play, try new things and have fun.
- Becoming is about the learning and development that young children experience. Children start to form their sense of identity from an early age, which shapes the type of adult they will become.
