About the centre
SDN Paddington Children’s Education and Care Centre has been operating since 1924. The child care centre caters for 76 children between the ages of six weeks and five years old. We are part of SDN Children’s Services, a not-for-profit organisation with over 106 years experience in early childhood education and care, as well as targeted support services for children.
Our staff
Our educational team includes three Early Childhood Teachers and a Mothercraft Nurse, as well as TAFE trained and experienced bilingual/bicultural Educators. One of our staff members has worked for SDN for 30 years, and another for 14 years. Staff members speak a range of languages including, Gujarati; Hindi; Marathie; Spanish; Nepali; Korean; Fijian and Tagalog. All our educators are experienced in observing the children’s interests and creating a program that nurtures and extends upon these understandings.
Our care and education programs
Embedded in our curriculum is a strong emphasis on language, literacy, mathematics and technology. Rich learning opportunities also occur through a significant focus on visual arts and culture in the context of the Paddington community.
We welcome parent involvement and family connections, as we believe both relationships are powerful and influential. We believe our strength lies in the relationships we create and consolidate with the local community, local schools, galleries and businesses. We are often seen out and about in our local community.
Location
Our learning environment enables children to access materials and provocations that help them develop familiarity and confidence as they learn. Spaces are designed to promote participation and engagement. Intentional spaces invite children to connect with friends to exchange ideas, research and explore understandings of the world in which we live. Children’s work and theoretical perspectives are documented and transparent as a window into the processes of learning.

‘My daughter and my family’s experience of care during her time at SDN Paddington has been extremely positive. The continuity of care and real interest in her development and growth has continued throughout her five years at the centre. Each room she has progressed through has contributed to her growth and development and made her the happy and well-adjusted five year old she is today. I cannot thank the staff at the centre enough for the care and support they have provided to her and her younger sister during their time at SDN Paddington.’ McGlynn Family
