Staff and families come from a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds, making the centre’s community unique, strong and supportive. Our staff speak a range of languages including, Greek, Russian,Italian, Malay, Hindi, Punjabi and Bengali.

Our care and education programs

Staff are committed to supporting children and families through an emergent curriculum approach, which develops and extends upon children’s interests and learning experiences. We value positive partnerships with families and provide opportunities for families to be a part of the children’s early learning and development.

Location

The outdoor space is surrounded by heritage trees, with a large play area for children to explore their natural environment. We aim to provide positive community excursions for children and families, to allow the children to become familiar with the community and become responsible contributors to society. The children enjoy participating in community excursions to the local library and park and into the city.

Testimonials from families

‘I am very impressed with the care and individual attention given to all children in the centre. It is a safe environment with enthusiastic staff. As an SDN centre the staff to children ratio is strictly maintained at a low level, which is very important to me. I did not expect a centre to provide breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and supper, and as a working mother I find this a real bonus. For parents who work in the city it is ideally located as I can drop the children off in the morning and catch the bus to the city, taking advantage of all day parking in the area.’ Virginia Troy.

‘My son loves attending and particularly enjoys expanding his interests in science and nature, as the staff encourage the children to explore their personal interests. My son developed some lasting friendships with some of the children. The educators are an amazing team, nurturing and supportive, and always make themselves available to us by giving us updates on our son’s development. SDN Lois Barker is a wonderful part of his childhood and we are thrilled we have his beautiful journals that document his time at the centre, to remember it always.’ Vesna Baric.
