About the centre
SDN Mosman has been operating as a child care centre since 1944. All children in our child care centre benefit from a creative, child-focused curriculum developed by our university qualified Early Childhood Teachers.
Our staff
Our teaching team consists of highly experienced Educators, including two full-time Early Childhood Teachers. Two additional staff members are undertaking their Early Childhood degree at university through distance education. Our staff a range of languages other than English including, Nepalese, Tagalog and Japanese.
Our care and education program
Our preschool program encourages children to work in small groups. We use language, literacy, and technology to investigate topics of relevance and interest to the children and educators. At SDN Mosman we believe that teaching children how to investigate and explore with their peers is the best way to prepare them for school.
We find we have a close connection with our families. We encourage families to be involved at the centre in a variety of ways. Many parents choose to take a more active role in the centre by participating in the parent committee.
Location
The local community features a lot in our regular excursions. The parents support these outings to the library, zoo and local parks.
We have a shared outdoor learning space where older and younger children play together. This gives siblings the opportunity to share time together throughout the day. The large leafy tree is the centerpiece for our outdoor space and creates a natural, shady setting for all age groups.
Our three separate indoor classrooms are age specific. All children are involved in smaller group experiences which are based around friendships and ongoing projects. Both Educators and children have input into what these smaller experiences involve. ‘Over time children engage with increasingly complex ideas and learning experiences which are transferable to other situations’ (Early Years Learning Framework).
