About the centre
SDN Northern Suburbs Children’s Education and Care Centre opened its doors at Crows Nest in 1929, and boasts a strong and proud history of providing high-quality early childhood education for children and their families in the local community. Positioned in an area with a high density demographic, it is one of the only local centres with a large natural outdoor play space.
Our staff
A diverse team of early childhood professionals – including three university qualified Early Childhood Teachers, TAFE trained educators and experienced bilingual/bicultural child care workers – works together to create a curriculum for the children that is meaningful and exciting. The teaching team is committed to working with small groups to support the development of language and literacy skills, numeracy and technology skills and also children’s social and emotional competence.
Our care and education programs
The learning environment reflects the interests and talents of its participants. Families, friends and visitors are welcomed into an environment that is both comfortable and engaging. Spaces are designed to promote participation and sustained shared learning. Children’s work, photographs, ideas and questions are documented as a window into the curriculum.
Location
The centre has an active and interested parent committee which coordinates fundraising and social events to promote a sense of community within the child care centre. The children, teachers and families are committed to environmental sustainability, which is actively supported within the centre and a strong focus of our curriculum.

Testimonials from families
‘The centre radiates a warmth I have not seen at other centres. My youngest son has a special need which has been placed as a high priority by the staff, who are invaluable assets in his early intervention program.’

‘We consider ourselves very lucky to have found such excellent child care facilities at SDN Northern Suburbs for our children. SDN came highly recommended to us from friends. With fabulously qualified, caring and consistent staff, the children are truly happy to be there. I love picking them up from the centre and seeing their smiling faces and hearing about their day. It is amazing how much they have learnt since being at SDN and it is all due to the staff. They have become a part of our little family and I feel totally comfortable leaving my children in their care.’
Belinda and David Finlay.
‘The staff are very professional, friendly and nurturing. I have recommended SDN to other mothers looking for a clean, safe and educational indoor and outdoor environment for their children. Once they visit, they will see for themselves that SDN Northern Suburbs is a terrific long day care centre.’

‘I cannot express how happy I am with SDN Northern Suburbs. I believe the centre has a well-balanced structure for children. Children have the chance to be sociable, learn different things with the guidance of teachers and on their own, through a wide variety of activities and games. The carers are wonderful and care for our children in a warm and loving environment. I really appreciate the attitude of the teachers, especially the fact that they get to know and work with the individual personalities of the children. They seem interested in providing a bright, educational atmosphere for the children. I would also like to convey how thrilled I was with how well prepared my son was for school – a testament to the staff and the centre.’ Susan
