SDN Ngallia

About the centre

Ngallia means the meeting place of the children in the local Aboriginal Dharruk language. The centre is located on the beautiful grounds of Sydney University’s Cumberland campus, run by SDN Children’s Services since 1997. While many students and staff members from Sydney University and TAFE use our centre, we welcome all families from the community.

Since the centre opened it has received the highest ratings in each of the ten National Childcare Accreditation Council areas of assessment.

Our staff

We have 13 staff members who are dedicated to early childhood education and care. Our team consists of two university educated Early Childhood Teachers, three diploma qualified educators, seven Certificate III in Children’s Services qualified staff members and two experienced support staff members.

Children, their families and visitors are encouraged to speak in the languages they speak at home at the child care centre. Staff members speak 12 different languages altogether, including English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Tamil, Hindi, Nepali, Macedonian, Kursidh, Arabic, Croatian, Telugu, Spanish, Serbian and Persian.

Our care and education programs

Our work at SDN Ngallia is underpinned by contemporary early childhood practices.

Children also enjoy the delicious and nutritious multicultural meals that reflect their favourite dishes and cultures, including Halal food and Korean, Vietnamese, Australian, Chinese and Italian menus.

Location

Children, their families and staff have access to peaceful and safe surroundings, which allow them to have enjoyable experiences enhancing their body and mind. They can lie freely on the grass, letting the breeze enlighten them while they enjoy the natural surroundings.

Testimonial from families

‘For parents it is so important to have confidence that your child will be cared for conscientiously and appropriately. My wife and I have that confidence in SDN Ngallia. Our son, Harrison, looks forward to going to ‘preschool’ as he has friendly staff and other kids to relate to in a positive way. The staff recognise Harrison’s individuality both in terms of his personality and his developmental milestones. His day is filled with a wide variety of creative activities for which he has a level of choice. Importantly, in the midst of an obesity epidemic, Ngallia ensures the children are provided with fresh nutritious food. When I pick Harrison up after a day at Ngallia he is full of stories about the day’s activities and his interactions with his peers, and has nice comments about his carers. We are lucky to have found such a good centre for Harrison that is conveniently close to my work.’
Richard Smith.

‘It’s a well organised centre that delivers a good level of care towards the children. I would recommend the child care centre to anyone.’ Thanh Nguyen.

‘We love the environment that Ngallia provides – a very warm friendly feeling. Our child cries to go to day care the days he is not enrolled there as he enjoys it so much.’ Rose Charles.

‘Safety, cleanliness and happiness were my number one priority for my daughter when I first walked into SDN – I found exactly that. It is very comforting to know my daughter is in a secure and clean environment. The centre has lots of room and a big, big playground for children to run around in. I am really impressed and happy with the portfolio SDN has put together on my daughter’s development. ’ Quyen Ho
