About the centre
SDN Riverwood Children’s Education and Care Centre has been operating since 1974. The centre offers 60 licensed places for children aged between six weeks and five years old. We are part of SDN Children’s Services, a not-for-profit organisation with more than 106 years experience in early childhood education and care, as well as targeted support services for children.
Our staff
The team of early childhood professionals at SDN Riverwood has a diverse range of skills, experience, qualifications and expertise. Our team comprises of 12 teaching staff ,with the support of a part-time cook and office administrator. The teaching team includes two university qualified Early Childhood Teachers, five diploma trained Educators and five certificate level Educators.
Staff speak a range of community languages, including Mandarin, Korean, Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Macedonian, Nepalese, Bangla, Cantonese and Indonesian. The team advocates for cultural competence and works to support home language maintenance for bilingual children, while helping to develop their English language skills.
Our care and education programs
The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) informs curriculum decisions and educators work collectively to plan interesting and engaging learning experiences. The environment is reflective of children’s current interests, investigations, learning endeavours and their shared understandings of the world in which we live. SDN Riverwood is recognised as a benchmark for quality and innovative practice and regularly hosts curriculum tours for early childhood professionals, academics and policy makers.
Location
SDN Riverwood is located within the Canterbury City Council local government area and sits on the cusp of Bankstown and Hurstville City Councils. We have a long-standing relationship with the local community centre and nearby schools, as well as other community groups, organisations and agencies. The local community provides a vibrant learning environment for our children and we regularly go on excursions to local shops, services and parklands.
