The Supporting Children with Additional Needs (SCAN) Program is funded by the NSW Department of Human Services Community Services, to assist children with additional needs get the educational support they need.

In the Metro Central Region of South Eastern and Inner Western Sydney, the SCAN Program is managed and administered by SDN Child and Family Services.

NSW Community Services-funded preschools, occasional care services, multipurpose centres, and vacation care services can apply for funding to provide support for children who have access and inclusion issues due to:

  • Challenging behaviours
  • Delayed developmental or diagnosed disabilities
  • Severe chronic health conditions
  • Moderate to severe language delays

Funding can be used as a contribution to provide specialist training for staff, employ a support worker, purchase equipment or resources that are suitable for children with additional needs.

The aims of the scheme are:

  • For children with additional support needs to have increased opportunities to access eligible Community Services-funded Children’s Services.
  • For eligible Community Services-funded Children’s services to be able to be responsive to the needs of children with additional support needs.

SCAN funding also assists children from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds receive enhanced support through the resourcing and training of staff in eligible Metro Central Region services.
