inclusion support

This program aims to support families in the inner city who are vulnerable, but who rarely seek help. We know that some young parents, Aboriginal families, drug or alcohol using parents, and dads who may need more support to raise their children, avoid services as they fear judgment. We build relationships with such families, offering them support and referrals to other services in order to increase their confidence and competency as parents. We also work with other agencies to co-plan services that fill gaps.

  • We run a drop in baby group at Redfern Early Childhood Health Clinic, on the Baby Health Centre’s drop-in clinic morning.

  • We work with agency partners, the Parent Infant Foundation of Australia (PIFA) and the Aboriginal Children’s Service (ACS), to offer a therapeutic group for mainly Aboriginal mothers who have experienced trauma, and to provide an attachment based support group for their children.

  • We are currently working with the Redfern Waterloo Authority (RWA) to run a basic training course: ‘How to cook family meals on a tight budget’.

  • We distribute a regularly updated ‘What’s On for Young Parents’ info sheet to local community agencies.

  • We organise interagency meetings to discuss the needs of young parents in inner Sydney
