This program is funded by the NSW Department of Education and Communities.
What is the SCAN program?
The Supporting Children With Additional Needs (SCAN) program is designed to boost the capacity of eligible services to include children with additional needs.
SDN manages SCAN in the Metro Central Region (South Eastern Sydney and Inner Western Sydney). We employ SCAN Educators to support and resource eligible services.
Who does SCAN target?
- Children with challenging behaviours.
- Children with delayed development, or diagnosed disabilities.
- Children with severe chronic health conditions.
- Children with moderate to severe language delays.
How is the funding used?
The funding helps SDN pay for:
- Employing a support worker (beyond our licensing requirements).
- Buying specific equipment/resources or specialised aids relevant to each child’s needs.
- Extra staff training (beyond that provided by SCAN organisation).
- External professional staff.
What are the aims of SCAN?
For children with additional support needs:
- More opportunities to access eligible Community Services-funded Children’s Services.
For eligible Community Services-funded children’s services:
- The ability to respond to the needs of children with additional support needs.
For children from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds:
- Better support through the resourcing and training of staff in eligible Metro Central Region services.
