What is SDN’s PlayLinks program?
PlayLinks is a supported playgroup program. We work with families of children with additional needs, linking them with services that can help.
- Are you concerned that your child isn’t doing as well as other children?
- Does your child have suspected or diagnosed disability or developmental delay?
- Are you feeling unsure about what to do next?
If so, PlayLinks staff can help by:
- Talking to you about your child’s abilities and needs
- Giving you information and support
- Providing opportunities for you to play with your child and learn how to help them through play.
Can we join PlayLinks?
To join PlayLinks you need to be able to answer yes to both these questions:
- Do you live in the Parramatta or Blacktown Local Government Area?
- Is your child (or children) with additional needs aged 0-5 years?
What happens at PlayLinks?
We can help plan services for your child, show you ways to help your child progress, and link you with others.
PlayLinks is staffed by a team of early childhood and allied health professionals.
At PlayLinks you will have the opportunity to work with professional staff in helping your child.
We also play together, sing together, have morning tea together, practise new skills, share ideas and information and make new friends.
What can I find out at PlayLinks?
Parents who come to PlayLinks pick up a lot of useful information. Depending on your child’s needs this could include:
- How to help your child learn to talk, to understand words, to play and to learn.
- What to do if your child is learning more than one language.
- Ideas for managing your child’s behaviour.
- What to do if your child is having trouble jumping, running and climbing – or using their hands to do up buttons or hold a pencil.
- How children develop, and what to expect at different ages.
- Where to go for services and activities for children and families.
- Help for children to get the transition services they need.
When and where, and how much does it cost?
PlayLinks is free!
