Partnership with Parents

This project is funded by the Federal Department of Families, Housing Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).

SDN’s Partnership with Parents program offers family case work and group sessions on parenting skills to marginalised families who rarely seek help.

Partnership with Parents works with families in the inner city who may need additional support with their children. We help young parents, Aboriginal families, parents who use drugs or alcohol, and dads needing a hand.

Targeted support for marginalised families

The support we provide to families includes:
  • A baby group at Redfern Early Childhood Health Clinic – held on the Baby Health Centre’s drop-in clinic morning.
  • A parenting group that supports parents of children under five years of age who may have additional issues in their lives such as mental health struggles, drug and alcohol issues, domestic violence or involvement with the child protection system. Some of the parents who attend have children who are currently in care.
  • A supported playgroup for Aboriginal families, in Glebe.
  • Basic cooking classes for parents.
  • A regularly updated ‘What’s On for Young Parents’ info sheet, distributed through local community agencies.
  • We organise interagency meetings to discuss the needs of young parents in inner Sydney.
