Nappy Drive 2018
Nappies Needed Now! During Refugee Week, 17–23 June 2018, SDN will be running a nappy drive campaign for the Asylum Seekers Centre (ASC) at Newtown in all of our children’s education and care centres. All families and staff are invited to make a contribution to this initiative.
We need donations of disposable walker size nappies (13-18kg) and disposable junior size nappies (16kg+) for children of families seeking safety through asylum in Australia. Many of these children are suffering from trauma as a result of persecution and the human rights abuses that have impacted them in the countries from which their families have fled.
We require donations of disposable rather than cloth nappies as many of these asylum seeking families do not have access to laundry facilities.
SDN has developed a strong relationship with the ACS through our Child and Parenting Support (CaPS) program at Burwood, which works with migrant and refugee families. In 2017 ASC cared for more than 2,500 people seeking asylum, including 725 children; the Centre supports people who arrive in Australia by boat and plane from over 80 countries, including Iran, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
SDN will organise to deliver the donated nappies to the ASC, who will then distribute to families in need. For further information contact Debra Morrison on 9213 2413work or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you aren't able to donate a packet of nappies but still want to contribute, you can donate directly to the Asylum Seekers Centre at https://secure.asylumseekerscentre.org.au/
