16 Medical conditions If your child has a medical condition, such as anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes or epilepsy please provide your Centre Director with a medical management plan signed by a Medical Practitioner and medication. Your Centre Director will also work with you to develop a risk minimisation plan to ensure day to day practices are in place to support your child. We have appropriately qualified first aid educators with specialised training in asthma and anaphylaxis on the premises at all times. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of your child please talk with us immediately if there are any changes to your child’s medical needs. Sun protection To make sure your child is suitably protected from the sun, please provide your child with the following items: a hat that protects their face, neck and ears. For example, a wide brimmed or legionnaire style hat. Children without a sun-safe hat will play in an area protected from the sun (eg under shade, veranda or indoors) or will be provided with a spare hat clothing that covers as much of the skin as possible — especially the shoulders, back and stomach. Educators will use a combination of sun protection measures whenever UV Index levels reach 3 and above. These measures include applying sunscreen, wearing hats and protective clothing, and providing adequate shade. In the months of June and July the UV levels are usually lower than 3 and sun protection is generally not required. Educators check the UV index daily.
