Student Placements, Scholarships and Traineeships
SDN is committed to the education and training of early childhood educators, social workers and allied health staff through student placements, internships and traineeships in our services and programs. We also support education through scholarship opportunities.
When you undertake a tertiary student placement with SDN you will be working with one of Australia’s most respected and experienced leaders in the children’s education and care sector.
If you would like to complete your student placement with us then register your interest now. Or to read more about what you can expect when you complete a student placement or internship with SDN, see our Student Program Handbook.
Scholarships for tertiary students
SDN tertiary scholarships and awards are designed to reward student commitment to child and family wellbeing, and social inclusion. We look for scholarship recipients that reflect the diversity of the Australian community, and the range of scholarships we offer reflect our multidisciplinary approach to early education and care.
SDN scholarships provide students with a financial award of between $2,000 and $3,000 as well as a pathway from theoretical study to practice, as recipients are also offered the opportunity to complete their practicum in an SDN early childhood education and care centre.
SDN offers the following scholarships:
- SDN Aunts Fry Gift Scholarship (All partner universities)
- SDN McElhone MacCallum Leadership Scholarship (University of Notre Dame)
Who is eligible for an SDN scholarship?
SDN scholarships are not necessarily awarded to the student with the highest marks, though you do need a credit average or higher to apply. We look for students who are passionate about working in early childhood education and care, who genuinely connect with children and who want to contribute to a future where the promise and potential of every child is realised.
SDN runs a traineeship program across our NSW and ACT centres. Traineeships are a practical gateway into the early childhood education sector – you earn while you learn. Start your career with a Certificate III or advance your current skills by actively working towards the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
