Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy supports your children to improve their ability to do the everyday things that they want or need to do.

SDN’s Occupational Therapists work with your child and include you as part of the team. They actively pass their knowledge, skills and expertise on to you, so therapy can take place every day. This can also reduce the need for so many face to face sessions and provides your family with better value from your NDIS package.

Our Occupational Therapists can help your child with:

Indendence and self-care skills

Supporting your child to become more independent and improve their ability to look after themselves – for example: eat, dress, brush their teeth, etc.

Engage in meaningful play

Some children may need additional support to understand how to engage in meaningful play. This can involve learning to follow the rules of a game or working as part of a team.

Participate in preschool and school

Occupational Therapy can support your child to participate in preschool and big school. School readiness and transition to school may look like supporting them to pack their bag, to learning how to make friends.

Enjoy leisure activities

Our Occupational Therapists can support children to engage in and enjoy their favourite activities, whether that's swimming, playing sport or doing arts and craft.

How does Occupational Therapy at SDN work?

SDN’s occupational therapists work with your child and include you as part of the team. They actively pass their knowledge, skills and expertise on to you, so therapy can take place every day life. This can also reduce the need for so many face to face sessions and provides your family with better value from your NDIS package.

Because our Occupational Therapists also work as part of an interdisciplinary team with Speech Pathologists, Behaviour Support Practitioners and Early Intervention Practitioners, they have access to the expertise of our team should your child ever need it.

Our Interdisciplinary approach

At SDN, we use an interdisciplinary approach to our Early Childhood Intervention, allied health services and therapies. This means our SDN Speech Pathologists work as part of a team with occupational therapists, behaviour support practitioners and early intervention practitioners, they have access to the expertise of our team should your child ever need it.
