Why are fine motor skills important?

Fine motor skills involve small muscles working with the brain and body to control movements in areas such as the hands and fingers. Developing fine motor skills helps children do things like eating, writing, manipulating objects and getting dressed.

6 Simple and Fun Activities to Support Your Child’s Fine Motor Skills:

How do these activities support fine motor skills?

While gripping, squeezing, pulling, scooping and simply using their fingers to move and manipulate small activities children are strengthening their hand eye co-ordination, building the muscles in their hands and fingers, learning to problem solve and creating more complex finger grips.

Fine motor sensory play at home should be fun, simple and most of all have family engagement. Role model touching, pulling and being apart of the experience. Parents careers and family are a child’s best teacher. Model language, talk and use simple language to explain and expose your child to new words and build connection.

Most of all, have fun and be silly. These moments make the best memories.
